A day in the life of the SF MAC Team

The "bikes" above are GPS data points that locate catch basins in the City and County of San Francisco. These are not ALL of the catch basins in the city; however, they represent a cross section of the city's more than 22,000 storm drains (If we included information about each SF catch basin on the map above, the streets of San Francisco would be covered in more green bicycles than they already are ;-). Each of the points above was inspected for mosquito activity and standing water. Every time a MAC team member inspects a catch basin they spray paint a small dot nearby, to indicate that the catch basin has been inspected. Every one of the more than 22,000 catch basins in San Francisco is inspected approximately 11 times over the MAC Team Season stretching from February to November. Check back here for updates to our GPS data and more information about the 2010 MAC season. Feel free to play around with the the plug-in above to gain a unique perspective on the work we do in the beautiful City and County of San Francisco.
